What to Look for When Buying a Hub
A hub is the central part of the wheel of a motor vehicle. It houses the wheel bearings and holds the wheel studs. It may be covered by hub caps or wheel covers to make the vehicle look more attractive.  A car with drum brakes has the drum attached to the hub.


The Buying Decision
Hubs can be purchased new or used. Used hubs would generally have a lower price than new ones and therefore result in savings. High quality used hubs can be obtained in good condition.  The following tips should be taken into consideration:


  • The hub must be clean and presentable. Used hubs would be thoroughly cleaned and major components replaced with brand new ones during the refurbishing process.
  • Look for a test pass sticker which would be on the hub to indicate that it has passed the factory testing.  If this is not found, do not buy the hub.

 

Making the Purchase
Whether a new or used hub is being purchased the following tips should be taken into consideration:

  • Shop Around

Always shop around before making the purchase. Obtain information from three or four dealers before making the purchase. This allows for the best quality hub to be purchased at the lowest price.

  • Year, Make and Model of Motor Vehicle

The year, make and model of the motor vehicle must be known as this ensures that the hub will be the perfect fit for the particular vehicle. If the information is not known it can be obtained from the inside panel of the vehicle on the driver’s side.

  • OEM Hub

Replace malfunctioned hub with the original to ensure it fits right the first time. Non-genuine parts may need to be adjusted in order to fit the vehicle. This compromises the integrity of the part.

  • Warranty

The buyer should ensure that there is a warranty on the hub to be purchased. As warranty varies from store to store, this information should be obtained before the purchase in order to choose the best offer.

  • Return Policy

The return policy of the store should be clear. If the part does not fit properly or something else goes wrong it may need to be returned for a cash refund or exchange.

  • Shipping Costs

If the hub is to be shipped to the buyer the terms and conditions of the shipping arrangement should be considered. Some stores may offer free shipping while others may charge the shipping cost.

  • Reputable Dealer

Always buy from a reputable dealer.
